DIY Mount for Kodak PlaySport

DIY Mount for Kodak PlaySport Video Clips. Duration : 1.55 Mins.

I was concerned about the small contact area and plastic threads on my new Kodak PlaySport for mounting to tripods and bows and boats and cars, etc. I thought the camera needed more support and needed to be more durable for mounting. After some trial and error and not finding a sufficient cradle mount commercially available, I made a prototype. The contact area on the PlaySport is about 1/2" by 1/4", which is about an 1/8 square inch. Not a lot of support for an action POV camera. My prototype cradle holds the PlaySport along the bottom and an inch up both sides (front and back), cradling nearly 1 1/4 square inches of the camera. The 2" x 2" octagonal base allows for 3.13 square inches of surface area for tripod contact and mounting. The epoxy installed Tee Nut provides steel threads for tripod screws and mounts. And its light weight! I made it using my table saw, drill with a countersink bit, and my Dremel Tool. The Tee Nut was installed using epoxy. I purchased the stick-back hobby foam from WalMart. Good luck making your cradle. Watch your fingers using the table saw to cut the big notch to fit the camera.
